I had been hospitalized and in the course of recovery developed severe pressure ulcers. My doctor recommended and attempted to get an air mattress to help in the healing but of course the insurance company said they wouldn't cover it unless I was unless I was in a very advanced state of ulceration or developed sepsis. In short they wanted me to get much worse than I was before they would even consider acquiring an air mattress. On the trip back from the hospital I figured the ride would be quite painful and asked if there was anything the hospital could provide me to make the trip less painful. A nurse found a stryker cushion and a very bumpy 20 mile ride turned into a pain-free trip because of the cushion. I began using the cushion once I got home and it was fantastic. The pressure ulcers improved and the pain was severely lessened. The cushion didn't have a name on it and so it took me a few days to find out what it was and where it came from. Once I went looking it took several more days to find someone selling the item. That someone was gray line medical. I immediately ordered a cushion which was to serve as a backup cushion if something happened to the one I got from the hospital. The cushion was on back order at gray line so I had to wait until it became available. While I was waiting the cushion I got from the hospital started to deflate. The cushion comes pre-inflated and there is no mechanism for reinflating it should air escape. I had to buy another cushion in the interim but once gray line delivered I immediately swapped cushions and I was back in heaven. As my pressure ulcers are on my posterior where I sit the cushion is perfect. Anyone who has pressure ulcers and is told to acquire an air mattress but the insurance company won't cover it and the person can't afford to purchase one directly (they cost from 500 to a couple thousand dollars) this cushion is a superior option. Unless your backside is covered with pressure ulcers from head to toe I would recommend this solution over any other options. You could buy a much cheaper air mattress but you won't get the pain relief that this cushion will give you. You could buy a much cheaper cushion but again you won't get the pain relief that this cushion will give you. I searched the internet for days before I found a search parameter that brought up vendors selling this cushion there were only a couple providers and that includes what I could find on eBay. The eBay seller wandered almost $500 for the cushion Gray line medical was substantially lower in price. For me Gray line medical and the stryker cushion his greatly lowered the pain of pressure ulcers and therefore mightily improved my quality of life. Thank you!!
