North Coast Medical Orfit Classic Splints Material
A variety of thicknesses and perforations make Orfit exceptionally versatile.
Resistance to Stretch
Minimum resistance to stretch
Allows the splintmaker to easily stretch and wrap material.
Drape
Maximum drape.
Ideal for creating intricate shapes and contours.
When warm, transparency allows proper alignment and visual monitoring over anatomical landmarks.
Memory
100% memory.
Material will return to its original shape and size when reheated. Ideal for novice splinters.
Rigidity
Moderate rigidity.
Molded material splints flex slightly with force, especially the perforated, thinner materials.
Circumferential splints increase rigidity.
Bonding
Uncoated Orfit Classic Soft provides a very sticky surface when warm and bonds without the need for solvents.
Sticks easily to itself. Use as bonding agent to attach outriggers or other accessories to splint.
For a permanent bond, apply dry heat to the surface until shiny and attach accessories directly to the material. Wet bonds can be released in warm water if necessary.
For easier handling, add liquid soap to water and keep thermoplastic damp while molding.

Surface Finish
Resists fingerprints and other pressure marks.
Leaves smooth, self sealing edges when cut warm.

Applications
Choose thicker, smooth materials for large splints, lower extremity positioning, back supports and shoulder splints.
Choose thinner, perforated materials for lightweight, circumferential hand and finger splints, gauntlet style splints and pediatric splints.
Turns translucent when warm, allowing observation of landmarks and pressure-sensitive areas.
Working time (1/8")
Allows five to six minutes to form and harden after softening in 150° (66º C) water.
