I purchased an Ocean Reef Aria classic snorkel mask and filter adapter for Covid-19 protection. Although this particular set-up is not approved by the FDA, Pall filters have long been used for making anesthesia machines and breathing circuits safe for use with multiple patients for up to 24 hours. These filters trap 99.999 plus % of particles (including viruses). The mask provides an air tight barrier.All air breathed is thus filtered. Pall filters if used by both an infected patient and a care giver could radically decrease the chances of virus spread.
N-95 masks are only certified at 95% efficiency, and ONLY IF THE N-95 MASK FITS PERFECTLY FOR A VIRTUALLY AIR TIGHT SEAL. Within a few minutes an N-95 mask can get contaminated and stops being an efficient filter. Cloth masks are largely ineffective except to trap some of the exhaled germs the wearer.
