- KIMAX cylinder used in measuring particle size distribution in soil suspensions by means of a hydrometer (ASTM D422 and AASHTO T88)
- While the 1205 mL size is not specified in this method, it is useful in certain special cases
- The 1000 mL may also be used in pipet methods of mechanical analysis of soils
- Both sizes have a round base, approximately 107 mm in diameter, to fit into the metal baths generally used for this work
